Au XXe siècle, citons Orpheus und Eurydike(1926) de Ernst Křenek, sur un livret du peintre Oskar Kokoschka, l’opéra concretOrphée 53 (1953) de Pierre Schaeffer et Pierre Henry, ou Orphée (1993), l’opéra de chambre de Philip Glass. Le mythe d’Orphée a également été représenté par de la musique purement instrumentale, par exemple dans le poème symphonique Orphée (1854) de Franz Liszt.
